Transformers Prime: Cliffjumper First Edition Deluxe Review

You want the horns?

A tough stubborn bullheaded Autobot, Cliffjumper had helped rescue Arcee from Airachnid during the Great War between the heroic Autobots and the evil Decepticons.

Although Cliffjumper was offlined in the very first episode of Transformers Prime, he gets his own toy and even his very own mold (no longer sharing one with Bumblebee) in this amazing toyline.

Box Front:

Box Back:

Alt mode front:

Semi-soft horns are a big improvement compared to the flimsy soft plastic used for Starscream's missiles and head piece. The grill is very nicely detailed for a Hasbro Transformers toy release

Alt mode right:

The wheels are nicely detailed.

Alt mode left:

Alt mode back:

Unlike the Dark of the Moon (DotM) line of toys, Hasbro didn't skimp on the silver paint

Alt mode top:

Some minor breaks in the roof and a clean hood make this a great alt mode.

Alt mode bottom:

From the bottom it looks like a standard Bumblebee transformation

Transformation:

It's just awesome how the side panels of the car mode open up them collapse together to make a really kibble-free bot mode. The most difficult part of the transformation is pulling the shoulders from the roof - be careful as the shoulders are also painted and can chip easily.

Bot Front:

The chest piece is painted red but matches very well to the red plastic. Paint application on the face is very cleanly painted. The car headlights face downward unlike the front facing cartoon. The lower legs are squared compared to the round in the cartoon. And the foot should be painted red.

Bot left:

No side kibble. Although I forgot to take a photo of this, both hands can be rotated into his arm to reveal his 3 barrel cannon.

Bot right:

The cartoon shows the tire on his shoulder compared to the arm in the toy. The shoulders sit too high compared to the cartoon.

Bot Back:

Just the car's hood on his back making this one of the most kibble free robots I've seen in a long time.

Articulation:

Just like the rest of the Transformers Prime figures, Cliffjumper has amazing articulation in all places on his arm and legs. A heel piece makes him stand very stable in almost any pose.

TFP Bumblebee, Cliffjumper, and Arcee:

Cliffjumper is a tad too short compared to Bumblebee and Arcee, once again, shows that she's just made too tall.
Cliffjumper is the best of all the deluxe figures released in the Transformers Prime line as of this review. A zombiefied version of Cliffjumper is planned for this mold and a new, more cartoon accurate mold is planned for later this year in the Robots in Disguise line. I higly recommend picking up this toy if you're collecting the rest of the Transformers Prime line. If you're not a collector of the line, Cliffjumper is still a great toy to pick up just to see the amazing feat Hasbro/Takara has done in the latest Transformers technology and the huge quality control improvements.

Eric Toy Score: 4 out of 5

Publisher: Hasbro
Year: December 2011
Price: $12.99

Note: 2 Cliffjumpers are packed in each case of 8 wave 1.5 First Edition toys making him harder to find at retail compared to other deluxes.  Hasbro has announced the cancellation of the First Edition line of Transformers Prime toys for the US (source).  Prices for Cliffjumper on the secondary market have soared to $40 or more.

"You mess with the bull, you will get the horns"

The Rock Duane Johnson did the voice for CliffJumper.
