Google Android Greeneon Clear Mini Collectible 3" Review

Monday, February 6, 2012

You've seen him all over phone blogs and ads, now you can have your own!

This adorable Android mascot, designed by Andrew Bell, is part of a series of Android collector toys. Each one comes in various colors but you won't know what you get until you open the blind box. Luckily, lots of people are selling their duplicates on eBay/Amazon so it's not hard to pick up the more popular colors for a reasonable price.

Although most of the Android collectible toys are made with vinyl, this translucent one is made entirely of plastic. It makes it more durable and less prone to paint chipping.

The blind box:

The standard green vinyl one comes in series 1. This translucent one comes in series 2.

Front:

I always worry that his antennas will break off after some accident like dropping off my table.

Right:

A little air bubble in both his arms is neat.

Left:

For stability, his legs stretch from his front to his back. Not quite accurate to drawings of him.

Back:

He's etched with the word "Android" on his back. You can also make this is front if you rotate his head around - he's flexible.

Greeneon with a AA battery:

Articulation:

Android can rotate both arms and head 360 degrees.

Opens up:

He even opens up so you can store very small things inside like an AA battery

If you're a fan of the Google Android smartphone OS then you can't be a fan without owning at least one of these toys. The clear one is much more fun since you can dunk him in water and fill him with stuff in his belly, like a small apple. He's not made for kids to play with - at least if you hope you keep his antenna attached. And his limited articulation limits what you can really do with him. Building an army of Androids is neat but can quickly become pricy.

Go Android!
